NYC Workers’ Bill of Rights in Indigenous Languages
In January 2020, Kichwa Hatari collaborated with the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP), NYCOSH, and other workers’ rights organizations for the official launch of oral translations of NYC’s Workers Bill of Rights into K’iche, Mixteco, Kichwa, Garifuna, and Nahuatl. It became the first time NYC’s workers’ rights resources were translated in these five Latin American indigenous languages. The above image is QR-friendly, allowing organizations and the general public to access this oral resource by scanning the corresponding code with their preferred language.
Amongst the topics covered in the NYC Worker Bill of Rights include: Paid Safe and Sick Leave, the Right to Organize, Minimum Wage, Overtime, the Right to a Discrimination-free Workplace, Rights as an Independent Contractor, and the Right to a Safe and Healthy Workplace.
